IMSA president John Doonan on Brad Pitt movie at Daytona: ‘It made my hair stand up’

As the hours ticked down to the start of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, scheduled for a 1:40 p.m. green flag Saturday afternoon, IMSA President John Doonan held a press conference in the media room.

Among many things, he was asked about the Brad Pitt movie that has been filming in Volusia County for a couple of weeks and will also shoot during the twice-around-the-clock endurance race Saturday and Sunday.

“It made my hair stand up when you said that,” Doonan said, reacting to a question about the filming. “When we were contacted by the movie team about the possibility of filming here, we were very thrilled that our property, Daytona International Speedway, the World Center of Racing and IMSA could be part of that.”

“It’s a testament to the folks making the film that they want it to be 100% authentic,” Doonan said. “They ran until 2 in the morning two nights ago.
