Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Get an Inside Look at the Making of ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ with This New Book

If you’ve ever watched a Quentin Tarantino movie and wondered, “How the heck did he make this?,” have we got the book for you.

Insight Editions‘ new book, The Making of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, marks the first time Tarantino has granted access to journalist and author Jay Glennie to write the making of three of his most iconic movies.

“I have Jay Glennie’s books in my collection, and I have read and loved them, in particular on the making of The Deer Hunter,” Tarantino says. “I just know that there is no better guy to take a deep dive into my movies. I couldn’t be more thrilled with such a beautiful, fun, funny, and (at least to me) moving examination of my favorite movie.”

Fincher’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Follow-Up Adds Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki

Quentin Taraninto wrote the script but is not directing the feature, which is set up at Netflix and stars Brad Pitt in his Oscar-winning role of Cliff Booth.

Scott Caan and Elizabeth Debicki are joining Brad Pitt in the feature that is being made by Netflix.

Much of the project is shrouded in secrecy, but it is known to center on Cliff Booth, the former stuntman and body double to TV actor Rick Dalton, as seen in Tarantino’s 2019 film. It is set in a later time period than that movie. It is unclear how much of the material, if any, is based on Tarantino’s 2021 novel by the same name and which revealed more of Cliff’s backstory, including the death of his wife.

The title for David Fincher & Brad Pitt’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel may have been revealed

One of the wildest stories of the month has been the reveal that David Fincher will direct Brad Pitt in a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood from a script by Quentin Tarantino, which will premiere on Netflix. It still seems bonkers. However, more details have emerged for the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, including a possible title.

A little tidbit about the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel was buried in a Deadline interview with Michael B. Jordan. In it, Mike Fleming Jr. mentioned that he’s heard that the sequel will be called The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth. Not only that, but Booth will apparently embark on a new career as he becomes a Hollywood studio fixer. Sounds like a good fit for Booth, as he’s already proven that he will do whatever he needs to, including murder.

Pitt’s Cliff Booth Netflix Movie Gets New Details, Timeline Revealed

Speaking on The Big Picture podcast, Sean Fennessey, who is a friend of Tarantino’s, said that “it definitely seems like this movie is happening.

“David Fincher’s laundry list of movies that have never made it to the big screen or to Netflix streaming service is pretty long…I don’t know if this is like a locked picture that is going into production in July. It seems like it is.”

He continued, “This probably should not be thought of as a sequel. It should be thought of as a follow-up that is connected to, but not the same as — the example that was cited to me was, think about how The Big Sleep, the Raymond Chandler adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart, is in the same world as Farewell, My Lovely, the 1975 Robert Mitchum movie, because they play the same character in that movie. But it’s different actors, different directors, and a different time in the storyline. They’re different.

“…This will be like the further adventures of Cliff Booth, is my understanding of it. The only other important information that I’ve learned, that I think is confirmed, is that the movie takes place in 1977, which is roughly eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. So a different time in Cliff Booth’s life.”

David Fincher To Direct Brad Pitt In ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ Sequel Written By Quentin Tarantino

Now Fincher and Pitt working together isn’t a surprise; the “Se7en” filmmaker gives Pitt first dibs on all his projects (he turned down “The Killer” for example), but directing a film based on the screenplay of Tarantino, who always directs his own material, is not only an unexpected shocker, it’s a cinematic first.

What’s more, the project is being set up at Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal and aims to shoot quickly this summer.

From what I understand, this is the screenplay that Tarantino’s “The Movie Critic” evolved into when the writer/director couldn’t put the pen down and kept exploring the adventures of Cliff Booth.

Tarantino must have loved the script and didn’t want it to languish in a drawer because sources close to the filmmakers tell us he approached Fincher, and Netflix has quietly put together the deal, which will probably end up being around a $200 million budget to shoot in California this July—yep, it’s being fast-tracked and happening fast, meaning we’ll get additional casting soon.
