A dark cloud has hovered over the George Miller sequel Happy Feet 2, ever since the unexpected death of one of the first film’s leading voices, Brittany Murphy. There’s been no word on who will replace the actress for the follow up but according to Movieline two of Hollywood’s biggest leading men have recently signed on.

Apparently, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon will both lend their voices to the animated feature Happy Feet 2. It’s the 3-D sequel to the wildly popular 2006 film, which will once again feature the talents of Robin Williams and Elijah Wood. Warner Bros, the studio behind the film refuses to comment on the casting news, but Movieline’s sources assure us that it’s a done deal. Not only are the actors in the movie, but they reportedly did some voice work earlier this week.

BRAD PITT – Despite a recent bushy beard, his penchant for Tom Ford suits and Angelina as the ultimate red carpet accessory, have secured his place on our Best Dressed list. Even in a blush pink suit and cravat, he still looks unflinchingly masculine.

The presentation began with director Tom McGrath (Madagascar) talking about the film and the premise. Imagine if Superman (without the powers but same origin) was raised by criminals. That’s Megamind (voiced by Will Ferrell). The back-story is Megamind was sent to Earth but instead of being raised by caring parents, he landed in a prison yard and was taught his values by criminals. Of course no villain is complete without a superhero to fight, and that would be Metro Man (who is being voiced by Brad Pitt). And like any good superhero story , there has to be a woman who is the center of it all, and she’s a reporter named Rozanne (voiced by Tina Fey).

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s foundation is contributing $1 million to the emergency medical operation responding to the devastating 7.0-magnitude quake in Haiti.

It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades,” says Jolie.

Adds Pitt: “We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care.

Word on the street is that Hollywood’s golden couple won’t be attending the Golden Globes on January 17th. Sources tell E! News that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are opting out of the award show.

Apparently the reason for the no-show is because Brad isn’t nominated personally for his role in Inglourious Basterds. Angie’s stylist said last night, “They’re not going because he’s not nominated individually. Inglourious Basterds is, but not him.

No, he’s not auditioning to play a billy goat. Instead, perhaps Brad Pitt has been sporting his long, scraggly beard to get into character for a new movie role: that of British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, who disappeared in the Amazon in 1925.

But there are a couple of modern-day mysteries surrounding the story, too. First, a Paramount source says the film, called The Lost City of Z, doesn’t have a script yet and no date to start production has been set. In addition, Fawcett didn’t have a beard, but a handlebar moustache.

There is no film-related explanation I can give you as to why [Pitt] has the beard,” the Paramount source tells PEOPLE.

Terrence Malick’s epic The Tree of Life has been (and still is) a long time coming, as most all Malick films are. Luckily, this one appears to finally be poking its head above post-producive waters, courtesy of distributor Apparition, which seems intent on keeping the indie art film alive all by itself (they distributed films like Bright Star and The Young Victoria last year. Hell even Boondock Saints II), with Tree of Life and Kristen Stewart-led The Runaways next year.

In this article, Apparition’s leader Bob Berney gets excited about Malick’s new undertaking and a possible Cannes premiere: “There’s also no hiding Berney’s enthusiasm when he speaks about Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, due in the fall of 2010. Noting that the filmmaker, in spite of having directed only a handful of features, is a cult figure who has been a favorite at Cannes (Malick was named the fest’s Best Director in 1979 for Days of Heaven), Berney is eyeing a Cannes slot to premiere the much-anticipated Brad Pitt/Sean Penn starrer.
