Australian actor Anthony Hayes is the latest to join Brad Pitt in Netflix’s “War Machine.”
Topher Grace, Scoot McNairy, Emory Cohen, John Magaro and Anthony Michael Hall are also on board, with “Animal Kingdom” helmer David Michod directing and writing. Netflix will open the film in select theaters next year as well as stream the film on its online service.
Pitt and his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing with Ian Bryce.
Based on Michael Hastings’ book “The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan,” the story follows a general, played by Pitt, whose track record lands him the commanding job in the American conflict in Afghanistan.
Principal photography is scheduled to start this fall.

Years & Years Album Launch PartyFresh off the success of “Straight Outta Compton,” Keith Stanfield has signed on to join Brad Pitt in Netflix’s political satire “War Machine,” TheWrap has learned. Will Poulter (“The Revenant”) is also in talks to join the young ensemble cast.
David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”) will direct the film, which will debut in select theaters next year and stream exclusively on Netflix, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Michôd also wrote the movie, which is based on Michael Hastings’ bestselling book “The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan.” Pitt and his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing with Ian Bryce (“World War Z”).
“War Machine” follows a four star general (Pitt) whose impeccable track record lands him to command the American war in Afghanistan. Principal photography is scheduled to start very soon.
Pitt will be joined by Topher Grace, Anthony Michael Hall, Scoot McNairy, Emory Cohen and John Magaro.
Stanfield can currently be seen playing Snoop Dogg in “Straight Outta Compton.” He also co-stars in Oliver Stone’s “Snowden” and Don Cheadle’s “Miles Ahead.”

Brad Pitt found his military sidekick in his new Netflix feature War Machine. Anthony Michael Hall has been cast to star opposite Pitt in the satirical comedy from writer-director David Michôd (The Rover, Animal Kingdom). The project, which was inspired by the bestselling book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings, concerns a four star, “rock star” general whose lethal reputation and impeccable track record vaults him to command the American war in Afghanistan. While Pitt plays a character loosely based on Gen. Stanley McChrystal, Hall portrays the No. 2 in the military regime — Gen. Hank Pulver, who is also loosely based on McChrystal’s second in command Gen. Mike Flynn.

Scoot McNairy has been set to join Brad Pitt in Netflix’s war-on-terror-themed black comedy War Machine. Last seen in Gone Girl, McNairy reunites here with Pitt and his Plan B partners after he worked with them on Killing Them Softly and 12 Years A Slave. He worked with War Machine helmer David Michod on The Rover.
