Cannes 2011 Line-Up Announced
The official selection for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival has been announced, and it looks like a strong line-up for the world’s most famous film festival.
Stand out names include the opener, Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris, Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk About Kevin,Gus Van Sant’s Restless, and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life.

Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life will join a host of international titles when the 64th annual Festival de Cannes goes back to its roots with films from fest vets including The Dardenne brothers, Pedro Almodovar, Lars Von Trier and Nanni Moretti plus high-profile out-of-competition titles promising red carpets burning with A-list Hollywood talent.
After more than a year of waiting, fest artistic director Thierry Fremaux finally got to plant Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life at the famous festival. The film’s director and stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn are expected to make Croisette cameos, with Penn set for red carpet double duty in Paolo Sorrentino’s English-language Italian title This Must Be the Place.
Malick’s “Tree” blooms at Walker Art Center
Terrence Malick’s long-awaited family drama “The Tree of Life” will have its local debut Wednesday, June 1 at Walker Art Center. The film is set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Producer Bill Pohlad will introduce the film’s Walker screening, according to the museum’s film and video curator, Sheryl Mousley.
“We’re very excited to be presenting the premiere of this much-anticipated film,” Mousley said.
