Trailer: Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Reunite On Screen In ‘By The Sea’

Ten years after lighting up the big screen in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reuniting for the movies once again.

Entertainment Weekly released the first trailer for By The Sea, which offers a grim look at the messy relationship between lovers writer Roland (Pitt) and former dancer Vanessa (Jolie).

Harry Nilsson’s melancholy “Perfect Day” plays over the clip as Roland and Vanessa, yell, kick and scream at each other — very much like Pitt and Jolie’s first foray into on-screen romance!

The clip also features picturesque views of the island of Gozo, but don’t go planning your next vacation around the film’s locales. “It’s this lovely and quiet island and we built the hotel and bar,” Jolie explains. “Everyone who has seen the movie wants to go to that exact place — but it’s just the magic of film.”

Days after secretly tying the knot in France last summer, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt were hard at work on their latest collaboration, By The Sea.

Now, thanks to exclusive access obtained by People magazine, we’re getting a first look at the couple as they reunite on-screen together in the romantic drama.

Jolie Describes How She and Pitt Draw from Personal Life in New Movie

For 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt incorporated their real-life chemistry in playing husband-and-wife assassins. Ten years, five children, and one wedding later, Jolie says that the couple are drawing on another real-life element for their next collaboration—marital frustration.

In an interview with the D.G.A., the Oscar winner discusses By the Sea, the drama she wrote and directed “about a deeply unhappy couple on vacation in France who becomes involved with a pair of newlyweds staying at their seaside inn.” After filming the movie in Malta, Jolie reveals what it was like to be directing herself and her husband, who play the unhappy couple, during the drama’s more intense argument scenes.

“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other—it was very heavy,” says Jolie. “We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”

‘By The Sea’ Slated For Fall Release

Angelina Jolie Pitt’s next directorial effort By The Sea, in which she stars with husband Brad Pitt, has been given an awards-season release date of November 13 by Universal Pictures. The drama will face off against some wide openers that weekend: Warner Bros’ mine-disaster pic The 33, Paramount’s horror sequel Rings and Open Road’s Bill Murray-Bruce Willis pic Rock The Kasbah.

Written, directed and produced by the newly last-named Jolie Pitt, By The Sea follows American writer Roland (Pitt) and his wife Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Mélanie Laurent) and François (Melvil Poupaud) and village locals Michel (Niels Arestrup) and Patrice (Richard Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

Jolie Talks About Directing Brad Pitt’s Sex Scenes And Fighting Scenes

Angelina Jolie is directing as well as acting in “By the Sea,” which also stars her husband Brad Pitt. The movie, which is about an “unhappy couple,” reportedly has one sex scene. The actress has said that it was not difficult to direct the sex scene, as she and her husband Pitt were both part of this love making scene.

Cast member Angelina Jolie poses at the premiere of “Maleficent” at El Capitan theatre in Hollywood, California May 28, 2014. The movie opens in the U.S. on May 30.

Jolie told MTV News that directing Pitt in the sex scene was easy, as her husband just knows what to do. “I was the other person in the love scene, so it wasn’t that hard,” she said, adding, “He knows what I need. He’s always known.” The two got married earlier this year in August in a surprise wedding ceremony in the South of France. Jolie and Pitt are parents to six kids.

“By the Sea” also features heavy fighting scenes. According to Daily Star UK, Jolie has admitted that they have to face “intense emotional dramas” and “huge amounts of pressures” during the shooting of the movie.

Angelina mentions Brad and their children…

Because of Angelina’s movie Unbroken being released this week, she has been doing lots of press. As this website focuses on Brad I love sharing her interview quotes that mention Brad and their children. Here are some mentions but follow the link for the full interviews.

“Mom? I saw this thing over there — can I skateboard on it?” The “thing” is a freshly painted cyclorama inside the Los Angeles photo studio where, on a sunny day in November, Jolie is being photographed for her THR cover. And the blond girl in the hoodie who wants to skateboard on its rad curved surfaces is none other than Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, arguably the most genetically advantaged 8-year-old on Earth. Also possibly the most self-assured (“Wassup!” she greets a stranger, flashing a cocky grin). But the answer is no, Shiloh may not skateboard on the cyc wall. Some rules cannot be broken, even if your mother happens to be one of the biggest rule breakers of the year.

She spent the fall — right after their wedding — bossing Pitt around Malta while shooting By the Sea, her third directorial effort (which she also wrote), about a couple trying to rekindle their dying marriage during a trip to Europe. Pitt plays the husband in the film (still being edited), Jolie the wife. “Yes, we spent our honeymoon playing two people in a terrible marriage,” she says, laughing. “I’m sure a therapist would have a field day analyzing the films I choose to do. But it’s been 10 years since Brad and I have worked together. It felt like it was time.”

“The scenes on ‘By the Sea’ were so tense that we let out (any stress) on camera. There’s really heavy fighting in it, so I think sometimes the crew felt like, ‘Mom and Dad are having a fight!’ — because Brad and I are the producers too,” she said. “Success or failure, it’s all on us.

“But it was all oddly freeing. We both wanted to do something as artists … and push each other. So we got this opportunity to go out there and play.

Though married only since August — and globe-trotting from sets around the world to homes in Los Angeles, New Orleans or France — Pitt and Jolie are dedicated to setting aside Christmas as family time, she says.

“Our tradition is, well, being somewhat traditional,” Jolie reveals, even cozily referring to herself and Pitt as “Mom and Dad” when detailing their household holiday.

“Dad is the main one to deal with the tree, Mom and the kids help decorate, and then we put all the kids to bed. And, as anybody who has a big family knows, [the gifts] take a really long time! You have to be very organized when you’re wrapping them and putting presents around the tree. And you have to make sure no one gets up and leaves before everyone else is done.

“It’s all a bit military! We’re constantly cleaning up the wrapping paper and getting coffee, like any other parent,” she says.
