The entertainment for Saturday’s $1,000 to $2,500 per-ticket Make It Right fundraising gala is first class, with comedian Chris Rock and belter Bruno Mars, plus an appearance by the leading man behind the houses, movie star Brad Pitt.
Pitt’s architecturally avant-garde post-Hurricane Katrina neighborhood redevelopment in the Lower 9th Ward, has reached the 100-house mark. That’s impressive. Back in 2007 when the project began, the neighborhood on the east side of the Judge Seeber Bridge was a disaster zone, one of the areas hardest hit by the catastrophic levee failures of 2005.
The almost 10-year-old scars still show. Much of the area remains weedy and fallow, but 100 snazzy houses mark a few blocks of the landscape along Jourdan, Deslonde, Tennessee, Reynes and Forstall streets. Pitt, a modern architecture enthusiast with a craving for activism, used his considerable big-screen sizzle to make that happen.
Tom Darden, the svelte, youthful director of Make It Right sat on the front stoop of one of the concept houses on Friday (May 9) discussing the state of the ongoing project.
The biggest compliment he said he’s ever received about Make It Right came somewhat unconsciously, when an onlooker said “Wow, what a cool neighborhood,” instead of saying “Wow, such cool houses.”

Cannes: Wild Bunch Takes Sales on Terrence Malick’s Documentary ‘Voyage of Time’
Brad Pitt is an executive producer and narrator on the film, described as a celebration of the earth from the birth of the universe to its final collapse.
France’s Wild Bunch has picked up world sales rights to Terrence Malick’s Voyage of Time, a documentary project the Tree of Life filmmaker has been working on for the past 30 years.
Berlin-based Sophisticated Films is producing the film together with The Tree of Life production team, including Brad Pitt, Grant Hill, Dede Gardner, Nicolas Gonda, Sarah Green and Bill Pohlad. Pitt will also narrate the film.
Voyage is described as a celebration of the earth, displaying the whole of time, from the birth of the universe to its final collapse. Malick has been working on the project since the 1970s in collaboration with visual effects artist Dan Glass (The Matrix Trilogy, Batman Begins). The film is set to deliver in 2016 in both a feature-length version and a 40-minute Imax cut. The producers are in discussion with Imax to release Voyage of Time in Imax theaters worldwide.
Affleck to star in HBO’s “Lewis And Clark.”
Casey Affleck has signed up to star in HBO’s “Lewis And Clark.” As you might have surmised from the title, the six-hour miniseries will be about explorers Lewis and Clark, and their journey down the Missouri River. Some big talent is behind this one with powerhouses Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt putting the executive producer credit on this thing. And the show will be adapted from the book “Undaunted Courage” by Stephen E. Ambrose (the guy who penned “Band Of Brothers”). Here’s the Amazon synopsis:

In this exclusive preview, Jolie reflects on the perception of her early years in the spotlight:
The tumult of her twenties, was “misinterpreted as [me] wanting to be rebellious,” Jolie says. “And in fact it wasn’t a need to be destructive or rebellious—it’s that need to find a full voice, to push open the walls around you. You want to be free. And as you start to feel that you are being corralled into a certain life, you kind of push against it. It may come out very strange, it may be interpreted wrong, but you’re trying to find out who you are.”
What she hit upon was a deep and abiding fear “of a life half-lived,” she says. “I realized that very young—that a life where you don’t live to your full potential, or you don’t experiment, or you’re afraid, or you hesitate, or there are things you know you should do but you just don’t get around to them, is a life that I’d be miserable living, and the only way to feel that I’m on the right path is just to be true to myself, whatever that may be, and that tends to come with stepping out of something that’s maybe safe or traditional.”

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Teaming on Movie for First Time Since ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have chosen to work on a film together for the first time in a decade, launching development on an untitled script that she has written.
It’s not yet clear who will act, produce or direct the project.
The duo have acted together on only one other film — 2005’s action comedy “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide — but have remained busy in subsequent years.
