Chanel opened its show at Paris Fashion Week with a tribute to a classic of French cinema, tapping Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz to reenact cult scenes from Claude Lelouch’s 1966 movie “Un homme et une femme” (“A Man and a Woman”).
The Hollywood stars smoulder in the black-and-white footage, reenacting the roles originally played by Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant against the backdrop of the film’s iconic soundtrack by Francis Lai.
In the restaurant scene, however, the gender roles are reversed compared with the original. Model Rianne Van Rompaey, playing the waitress, comes to take their order. “What about the steak?” Pitt asks. “Mmm, yeah, that sounds good,” Cruz replies.

Brad Pitt’s Champagne to be poured at the Oscars
Pitt has been nominated for seven Oscars since bursting onto the scene as a cowboy hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise back in 1991.
He won Best Supporting Actor in 2020 for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and he also won Best Picture in 2014 after producing 12 Years a Slave.
The Hollywood heartthrob is not nominated for any awards this year, but he will still play an important role at the ceremony as he will be tasked with keeping the guests refreshed, with his Champagne set to be poured at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 10 March.
