Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker join 2019 Venice Film Festival lineup

The oldest film festival in the world is once again primed to launch budding Oscar contenders into the awards race.

The 2019 Venice Film Festival announced its full slate of official selections on Thursday morning, setting the pre-Oscar stage with new entries from respected directors such as James Gray (the long-gestating Brad Pitt sci-fi drama Ad Astra), Noah Baumbach (Scarlett Johansson‘s marital drama Marriage Story), Todd Phillips (the Joaquin Phoenix-led comic book adaptation Joker), Jackie helmer Pablo Larrain (Ema), and Steven Soderbergh (Panama Papers comedy The Laundromat, starring Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, and Antonio Banderas) — all of which will compete for the Golden Lion, the festival’s top jury-awarded prize.

Brad does not have an Instagram page

PSA. As a Brad fan myself and (private) Instagram user I see many Insta pages pretending to be Brad or not making a real effort to let their visitors know they are not Brad Pitt. It annoys me. Please do not believe people online saying they are him, do not send them money or your private information/photos. Check this video and bewarned.

MTV: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Brad Pitt is one of the most sought-after and acclaimed actors of his generation, with fans regularly enlisting his talents when speculation begins for an iconic role. After years of hoping to see him join an iconic franchise, fans saw him (sort of) in last year’s Deadpool 2, portraying the “Vanisher,” named for his abilities to become invisible. Pitt only appeared momentarily, depicting Vanisher’s death scene where he became visible, leading fans to wonder if this cameo made him more interested in future superhero roles. Unfortunately for fans, the actor admitted that the appearance satisfied his curiosities when it came to the world of superhero cinema.

“I think I’ve taken it as far as I can take it,” Pitt revealed to MTV News about the role. “Ryan Reynolds came up with a part that I could fill.”

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: Roundtable interview

To celebrate Quentin Tarantino‘s ninth (and, as he’s said, penultimate) film, Entertainment Weekly gathered the writer-director and three of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s stars for an exclusive roundtable interview. Watch (and read) for behind-the-scenes secrets about the highly-anticipated movie straight from Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Quentin, were you always intending for this to be basically a valentine to Los Angeles?

QUENTIN TARANTINO: Yes, it was. I grew up in Los Angeles, I love it. The only people who truly love it are — the people who love it the right way — are the people who grew up here and who know it.

BRAD PITT: Not true, not true! That does not have to be true!
