David Leitch Paddling Towards ‘Ocean’s 14’

David Leitch is in early talks to direct Ocean’s 14, the Smokehouse-produced caper franchise for Warner Bros that will mark the first one not directed by Steven Soderbergh, sources confirm. We’d reported that Conclave helmer Edward Berger was in talks, but those have gone away. The intention is to bring the original cast back in the fold. Leitch is coming off the Ryan Gosling-Emily Blunt-starrer Fall Guy and the Brad Pitt-starrer before that. Pitt’s part of the core Ocean’s cast along with George Clooney, Matt Damon, and others. The talks were first reported by The InSneider.

Clooney Confirms Fourth ‘Ocean’s’ Movie, Suggests It’ll Be Like 1979’s ‘Going in Style’

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will be starring in a separate prequel film set in 1960s Europe, with the duo allegedly playing the parents of Clooney’s title character.

Clooney told Uproxx while promoting “The Boys in the Boat,” which he directed, that there is a script in the works for a fourth “Ocean’s” film set after the events of 2007 movie “Ocean’s 13.” The film concluded Steven Soderbergh’s crime comedy trilogy at the time, and later led to 2018 spin-off “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock as the sister of Clooney’s (presumed dead) character.

“We have a really good script for another ‘Ocean’s’ now, so we may end up doing another one,” Clooney said. “It’s actually a great script.”

Clooney added that the film won’t be called “Ocean’s 14,” saying, “Well … I don’t want to call it that … I mean, the idea is kind of like ‘Going in Style.’”

TCM host Ben Mankiewicz asked both Soderbergh and Clooney about the possibility of revisiting the Ocean’s Eleven characters now, 15 years after the third film, Ocean’s Thirteen, premiered. Soderbergh responded there have been plenty of conversations about it, and he pointed to Ocean’s Eight as one result of such talks.

The director wouldn’t give a straight answer on whether he’d make another Ocean’s film, teasing the audience as he slowly parsed out each word, “I’m… thinking… about… tomorrow.”
