Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was close to tears as she received a special award during an unannounced visit to Sarajevo’s film festival Saturday with partner Brad Pitt.

“I will start crying if you don’t stop,” Oscar-awarded Jolie told the audience who gave her a standing ovation at the city’s National Theater.

Jolie chose Bosnia’s 1992-95 war as the setting for her first film as a director. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is due to be released in December.

She has also visited Bosnia as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.’s refugee agency UNHCR and funded the construction of several houses for returnees in eastern Bosnia.

Festival director Mirsad Purivatra presented Jolie with a heart-shaped award when she appeared at the closing ceremony.

“Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in,” Purivatra said.

Jolie, dressed in a long peach dress, stood on stage with eyes full of tears waiting for the clapping to die down.

“I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry,” she said, her voice breaking.

George Clooney’s “The Ides of March,” Madonna’s “W.E.” and David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method” (photo below) are among the films that will screen at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, the key fall festival that often serves as the unofficial kickoff to Oscar season.

Following the success of last year’s gala world premiere of the Bruce Springsteen documentary “The Promise,” the festival will open with Davis Guggenheim’s U2 doc “From the Sky Down.”

Bennett Miller’s “Moneyball” (with Brad Pitt), Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants” (with Clooney) and Sarah Polley’s “Take This Waltz” (with Michelle Williams) will also receive world premieres at the 11-day festival, which announced a star-studded and wide-ranging first batch of movies at a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday morning.

Brad Pitt may be hailed for his good looks but he’s revealed a sports accident at school nearly put paid to a career in Hollywood.
Talking in Cancun, Mexico, where he’s promoting his new baseball movie Moneyball, the actor said: “I knew very little about baseball apart from taking one in the face in junior high.”

The accident resulted in 18 stitches and a scar underneath his left eye. These days the star prefers to keep off the pitch but added: “I like to play ball with my boys.”

In Moneyball, Brad plays baseball manager Billy Beane. It’s based on the true story of the Oakland A’s general manager’s attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

Brad Pitt has reached out to Bam Margera following the death of his best friend and Jackass co-star Ryan Dunn.

The TV prankster passed away early on Monday (20Jun11) after his Porsche spun out of control at high speed and smashed into trees in West Goshen Township, Pennsylvania.

Margera openly sobbed on U.S. TV on Tuesday (21Jun11) as he visited the site where Dunn and passenger Zachary Hartwell perished, and he went through further heartache on Wednesday afternoon (22Jun11) as he attended a private memorial service for his pal in Philadelphia.

But Margera has been helped in his grief with many messages of support from his family and friends – including a touching message from Hollywood star Pitt.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, Margera writes, “Wow, just got a nice text from brad pitt concerning dunn, tnx (thanks) 2 (to) everyone for the texts, cheers me up.”

Thanks Anu.
