Based on the late Michael Hastings’ controversial best-seller The Operators

Netflix has scooped up rights to the Brad Pitt film about the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal that was being shopped at the Cannes film market.

Animal Kingdom helmer David Michod wrote the screenplay and will direct the satire, originally titled The Operators and now dubbed War Machine, which will be produced by Netflix and Pitt’s Plan B. New Regency and RatPac Entertainment, who were once onboard the project, are no longer involved.

The film, which begins shooting in August, will be streamed in 2016 on Netflix and get a theatrical release as well.

Based on the late Michael Hastings’ controversial best-seller The Operators, the story centers on the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan and offers a behind-the-scenes portrait of our military commanders, their high-stakes maneuvers and the ensuing political firestorm that shook the United States when he was forced to resign. But the film has changed course from its original dramatic vision when the rights were bought and will now be tonally in the vein of Wag the Dog. Pitt will star as Gen. McChrystal.

Domhnall Gleeson is featured on the cover of Interview Magazine this month and is interviewed by none other than Angelina Jolie. The pair touched on various topics in their interview, including Star Wars, but the most pressing question came from Jolie’s other half.

In the interview, Jolie put the following question to Gleeson.

“So, Brad had a question for you. “What the hell is the M doing in your name if you’re not going to use it?”

At first, Gleeson turned the tables.

“…maybe he can answer why there isn’t an M in Brad?”

After Jolie complimented his name and asked if it was “old Irish,” Gleeson gave Jolie a quick Gaeilge class.

In the age of selfies, social media and streaming videos, the idea of what makes a celebrity has expanded far beyond the Hollywood icons of the past. Now scientists, technology geeks, designers, writers and YouTube stars achieve fame alongside athletes and entertainers.

Curators at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery have examined how celebrity images are cultivated and how they’ve evolved for the new exhibition “Eye Pop: The Celebrity Gaze,” opening Friday.

The exhibition includes dozens of new paintings, photographs, sculptures and digital portraits by leading artists that the museum acquired in recent years. “Eye Pop” will be on view through July 2016.

Curators narrowed their list to 54 influential figures still living and active in their fields. Images of Brad Pitt, Barbra Streisand, Oprah Winfrey and Katy Perry made the cut, along with the founders of Google, star architect Cesar Pelli and food-to-table pioneer Alice Waters.

George Clooney took to Graham Norton’s red sofa this week to talk up his new sci-fi action film Tomorrowland, and revealed that his acting career may see a hitch in the near future – as his on-going prank feud with Brad Pitt may land him in jail.

“I’m not sure how it started but we have done some terrible things to each other,” he revealed during the interview. “I had some stationery made up with his name on and would then send letters to other actors from Brad Pitt. I sent Meryl Streep a letter from him with a whole stack of dialect coach CDs saying that they may help her for her role in the Iron Lady.”

Claiming that Brad and his victims often don’t realise they’ve been pranked until a year or two down the line, he claimed that his current practical joke may have more serious consequences.

“I’m doing one now that I can’t tell you about but in a year you are going to hear I’ve been arrested – I’m not kidding because I think I’ve crossed the line,” he joked. “It’s exciting. But, I have a wife, she’s a barrister, I’ll be fine!”

In 2011, Brad Pitt – on behalf of his Make it Right Foundation made a promise to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation that his non-profit would build 20 environmentally friendly homes at no cost to the Fort Peck Community.

Though Pitt stated the homes would be free, a reported $600,000 was fronted by Fort Peck tribal leaders and a plethora of problems continued to rear their heads in the face of developing the homes. In addition to sewage and land infrastructure problems, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also weighed in on the project – adding to the series of delays.

With all said, Taylor Royle, Communications Director of the Make it Right Foundation informed ICTMN, that the homes are on their way to finally being completed after several years of frustrating delays.

“Our first 10 homes are currently under construction and should be completed in July. We expect the remaining 10 homes (20 total) to be completed in the fall,” wrote Royle in an email to ICTMN.
