Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have chosen to work on a film together for the first time in a decade, launching development on an untitled script that she has written.

It’s not yet clear who will act, produce or direct the project.

The duo have acted together on only one other film — 2005’s action comedy “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide — but have remained busy in subsequent years.

Adaptation of Michael Hastings’ best-seller focuses on rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal

Brad Pitt is being eyed to star in “The Operators” with “Animal Kingdom” director David Michod signed to direct the adaptation of the late Michael Hastings’ best-seller.

The film will chronicle the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan, and will be backed by Plan B, New Regency and RatPac Entertainment. Hastings covered America’s recent military adventures for Rolling Stone and Newsweek and captured McChrystal in moments of shocking candor. In an interview with Hastings, the general and his staff were openly contemptuous of the White House and civilian leaders, and McChrystal’s intemperance ultimately led to his resignation.

Pitt will produce the film along with his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and the filmmakers promise a beyond-the-scenes look at the military infighting and ego-clashing that derailed a once-promising career.

EXCLUSIVE: Brad Pitt is circling an untitled WWII romantic thriller which Steven Knight has scripted for Graham King‘s GK Films. While it’s not a done deal yet and not yet set with a distributor, I’m hearing it’s serious and that a big director will be set with an eye toward starting production early next year.

Pitt produced and co-starred in Best Picture Oscar winner 12 Years A Slave, and he just finished another WWII battlefield film, the David Ayer-directed Fury, which Sony Pictures releases November 14. Pitt also worked the WWII terrain in the Quentin Tarantino-directed Inglourious Basterds. He also starred in and is prepping a sequel to World War Z. He’s repped by CAA and Brillstein.

Knight scripted Eastern Promises, and more recently the British series Peaky Blinders, the Helen Mirren-starrer The Hundred Foot Journey for DreamWorks, and he wrote and directed Locke with Tom Hardy. He’s repped by CAA and United Agents.

Brad Pitt is NOT being eyed for season 2 of “True Detective,” despite an inaccurate report circulating the Internet.

It seems that the rumor was started by a know-nothing blog trying to take advantage of the show’s popularity after the exciting season 1 finale.

The story spread quickly, in part because “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto has remained tight-lipped about season 2, only revealing that it will be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

But here’s the real story: There is currently no talk of Pitt joining the show.

An impeccable HBO insider tells Gossip Cop that the Pitt rumor is “pure speculation by an outsider.”

When there’s actual casting news for season 2, we’ll be on it.

A24 commissioned Kellerhouse to make some posters for Jonathan Glazer’s upcoming film Under the Skin, which stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien in human form, roaming through Scotland, “consuming” all she can.

I caught the film at the Toronto Film Festival last year and in my review I called it a “highly existential experiment”, adding:

[W]riter/director Jonathan Glazer (along with co-writer Walter Campbell) have loosely adapted Michel Faber’s 2000 novel into a story of an alien being come to Earth to harvest humans for sustenance and, in the process, finds compassion for her victims only to find with compassion comes injury. This, at least, is my interpretation of what I see as a highly cynical look at humanity, our judgment of others and mistreatment of those we don’t understand.

I’d call it a curiosity and a film that is likely to divide audiences and will certainly find larger appreciation in the art house crowd.

As far as my headline is concerned, according to an interview with Glazer at The Guardian, the story went through several iterations, one of which featured Brad Pitt as one of a pair of aliens masquerading as a Scottish farmer and his wife. The film eventually focused on the female character, Pitt moved on and now we have a finished project due in theaters April 4.

What’s the deal with Brad Pitt and “Memento,” did Nolan turn Pitt down?

No, he turned me down! [Laughs] Truthfully, [Pitt] did read the script, that’s where the story comes from, is he read the script and he met with me about it when he didn’t have any reason to know who I was or anything about it. And nothing came of it, other than him being interested in it, I think within the sort of agency world where the script was circulating, just sort of perked up a bit of interest in what was a very obscure project otherwise.
