Like all superstars, Brad Pitt has taken his hits: from the press, from the studios and, while making his latest film, Fury, even fellow actors took a swing. And now, as GQ’s latest cover star, he’s breaking cover. In our exclusive and candid interview, the actor talks family life past and present, the perils of living in a tank for four months and the power of the word ‘no’.
Elsewhere you’ll find Phoebe Eaton on the mysterious death of L’Wren Scott, a report on James Foley and the new chaos of kidnapping, and all the autumn/winter trends you need to know as the weather begins to wind down. We’ve also got a rundown of the foremost female networkers of our generation in the first-ever GQ 100 Most Connected Women in Britain list.
Here, see an exclusive preview of Brad Pitt’s cover shoot along with some choice quotes from our interview – and be sure to pick up the issue to read it in full this coming Thursday.
“I wouldn’t say [marriage is] just a title. There’s more to it than that.”
On what he thinks his friend George Clooney meant when he recently called Pitt “unreachable”
“Well, you know, George is extremely accessible. He’s one of our best representatives. He’s funny as shit. He’s a joy to be around. I guess maybe I’m more of a miserable bastard. [laughs]. I’m a bit of a loner you know? I’m more quiet by nature. And coming from, you know, hillbilly country, I’m probably more reserved.”
On choosing work
“I’m actually very snobbish about directors. I have to say no all the time. ‘No’ is the most powerful word in our business. You’ve got to protect yourself… To leave home, it’s got to be worth leaving. It’s got to be worth it.”

While there’s still a few months to go before Angelina Jolie debuts her sophomore directorial effort, Unbroken, she’s already begun production on her next film, the intimate drama By the Sea. Co-starring alongside her husband, Brad Pitt, Jolie also scripted the feature, which follows them as a couple on a getaway in 1970?s France.
Ahead of what’s surely a paparazzi free-for-all, the first official images have now debuted just days after production kicked off in Malta. Per EW, the story specifically finds Jolie as Vanessa, a former dancer and Pitt as Roland, a writer, both entangled in a crumbling marriage as they find rejuvenation after coming across a quiet, seaside village.
“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey,” Jolie tells the magazine. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect about the project is the involvement of cinematographer Christian Berger, a longtime Michael Haneke collaborator. While these promotional stills don’t reflect his actual work, mostly natural lighting is said to be employed. Check out the stills above and below for the film that will continue shooting through November.
Also starring Niels Arestrup, Richard Bohringer, and Melanie Laurent, By the Sea will likely be released next year.
Thank you Vaska.

We’re finally getting an inside look at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Aug. 23 nuptials. Check out the pics from their big day, including a first look at Angie’s breathtaking designer gown!
Angelina Jolie, 39, and Brad Pitt, 50, have finally shared photos from their secret wedding! Angelina is every bit the stunning bride, especially with her one-of-a-kind wedding dress!
Brangelina tied the knot in the chapel of Château Miraval, the couple’s estate in France on Aug. 23, and now we’re getting a glimpse at the big day.
Wedding photos of the family and the moment Brangelina said “I do” were revealed. Brad just couldn’t wait to kiss his beautiful bride!
Angelina wore a breathtakingly unique dress, as seen on the covers of People and Hello! Instead of a normal wedding gown, she let her kids have a part in styling her dress.
Luigi Massi, the master tailor at Atelier Versace, sewed designs from her kids’ drawings into the dress and veil, People reports. We love it!
“Luigi is like family to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else making this dress,” Jolie told People. “He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together.”
Brad opted to wear a suit from his closet. However, he had to borrow a tie from one of his sons because he forgot his, the outlet reports. Too funny!
The couple decided to wed after nine years and six children together.
“It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter,” the couple told Hello! magazine. “It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family.”
We’d heard rumors that Brad Pitt was staying in Eureka for a multi-day magazine photo shoot with iconic photographer Mark Seliger. Reddit was abuzz. But now we have our first photographic evidence. Below, feast your eyes on Mr. Jolie looking very much like himself yesterday at Eureka’s Black Lightning Motorcycle Cafe along with owners Cassandra and Jeff Hesseltine and brood (she’s also our county’s film commish, of course).
“He was pretty excited about the German pancakes,” Cassandra told LoCO of Brad’s BLMC experience.
In addition to pancake eatin’ and motorcycle gabbin’, Hesseltine accompanied Pitt and the photog crew around Humboldt for both days of shooting which took the megastar to Luffenholtz Beach and Redwood State Parks in both the northern and southern parts of the county. She was hush on where and when the photos may appear but assured us that Humboldt will look good when they are released.
“People will get to see some beautiful places,” Hesseltine said. “It’ll be really good for tourism in our area.”
