“Brad thinks I’m going to be a nightmare,” Jolie jokes, telling how directing her new movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey, has changed the way she will approach her acting career. “I had such a good experience he thinks I’m going to be impatient with directors, which I already am. I get impatient with people working on a film that have their head in their hands like it’s the most complicated thing in the world.”
Jolie does elaborate on Brad’s supportive role throughout the project. “He’d come in and say what he liked or what he didn’t understand. Like any woman, I would listen to most of it and fight a few things. He’s been so supportive. But it’s hard to separate the person that loves you from the critic, so I don’t think he’s a fair judge.” But she goes on to say that “people will judge for themselves. I think if you make a good movie people walk away arguing.”
Based on a true story, “Moneyball” is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s and the guy who assembles the team, who has an epiphany: all of baseball’s conventional wisdom is wrong. Speculation is rife in Falmouth this morning that Brad Pitt has arrived in the town to start filming today.
Filming begins on the motion picture World War Z today, with hundreds of extras getting an early morning call.
In the last half an hour the yellow SD Salmoor, an admiralty salvage vessel, could be seen in Falmouth Docks with hundreds of people on deck, dressed in dark greens, browns and khaki clothing.
The film opening the section won the Golden Palm at the last Cannes Festival, THE TREE OF LIFE, a poetic, personal reflection on the meaning of human existence directed by the North American Terrence Malick, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. With only five films on his filmography, Terrence Malick (Illinois, 1943) is a real cult figure in the history of American cinema, having won the Golden Shell at San Sebastian Festival with his very first work, Badlands (1974). With Days of Heaven (1978) he went on to secure the Best Director award at Cannes Festival followed by the Golden Bear at Berlin Festival for The Thin Red Line (1999).
Ray Liotta is the most recent actor to join the cast of the crime thriller Cogan’s Trade.
Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Javier Bardem, Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo, Vincent Curatola and Richard Jenkins also star in writer-director Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of the 1974 George V. Higgins novel.
Pitt’s Jackie Cogan is a professional enforcer who must investigate a heist that took place during a high-stakes poker game under protection of the mob. Liotta will play Mark “Markie” Trattman, the unfortunate hustler who runs the game in a motel room and finds things only going downhill from there.
“Earlier this week, the Daily Mirror U.K. and others reported that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are in the process of adopting a child from Haiti. Rather, Ms. Jolie is focused on enhancing the welfare and legal protection of children within Haiti. As such, she has been meeting with government of Haiti officials, Haitian legal experts and non-governmental organizations regarding a new initiative of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. The recently launched Jolie Legal Fellows Program will assist the justice system in Haiti to improve child protection.”
Vince Curatola is joining his former “Sopranos” cast mate James Gandolfini on the big screen in “Cogan’s Trade,” which begins filming later this month in New Orleans.
Gandolfini stars with Brad Pitt in the flick. Andrew Dominic wrote and will direct the movie.
Curatola will play Johnny Amato, who’s described as “a middle-aged man recently released from jail who seeks revenge upon the people who sent him to prison.”
Lubov Azria, chief creative officer of BCBGMaxAzriaGroup, shared this tidbit when asked to share one of her best moments in her long career in fashion.
“We were going to dress Angelina Jolie and we had a choice of three gowns with us. When we got there, she said she wanted Brad to pick,” she said. With other celebrities, “there’s usually a staff of 10 people who all have an opinion. He was very decisive. He’s an architect and likes geometric things. He chose the dress that everyone thought was backwards, and it was. He likes boatnecks — that’s all she wears.“
Producers have insisted that the film will hit theaters this year, and Malick has begun to work in earnest on his sixth film (which will apparently shoot in his boyhood hometown of Bartlesville, Oklahoma—a few years ago, Malick’s dear friend and collaborator Jack Fisk said that the now-56-year-old filmmaker “hasn’t yet made the projects most important to him,” but is he, now?). And somebody on the internet has seen a 3-hour rough cut of Tree of Life, and talked about in in some forum somewhere.
The poster hasn’t said how he saw it—a theater or screening room employee? affiliated with the distributor?—but claims that “Yes, it is finished,” although “there has already been talk in the news about Malick releasing it, then re-cutting it, then re-releasing it, etc.” Malick’s a private perfectionist, and he pulled The New World out of theaters to recut it, so it’s no surprise that he may still be pursuing his idea of the film. But it is, by some accounts, very close. (And probably very good.)
The main bulk of the film is about his childhood growing up in Texas (reels 3-7 out of 9!). The “creation” footage is outstanding, absolutely jawdropping, and does indeed feel like 2001 – a lot of the effects are practical and your eyes can see that, which makes it really fascinating to watch. I don’t have a problem with the creation footage being connected to his boyhood, after all, most boys love dinosaurs, so that’s how I looked at it.
The story is framed around the death of his middle brother (in Korea?? We never know) and is a reflection on the circle of life, the evolution of life out of the mess of the Big Bang, but also about life itself (the strained relationship with his severe father, a stunning performance by Brad Pitt, just stunning), and the end of the Universe. I still haven’t given anything away that hasn’t already been said in the press. The film just has to be seen to be believed! One feels like a child again, seeing the world through young wide eyes.
Brad Pitt is the NFL’s voice for its upcoming documentary on the New Orleans’ Saints Super Bowl victory.
Pitt narrates NFL Films’ documentary, “America’s Game: 2009 New Orleans Saints,” about the team’s win over the Indianapolis Colts last February. The film debuts on the NFL Network at 9 p.m. EDT on Sept. 8, the night before the Saints begin their defense of the Super Bowl title.
The NFL traditionally seeks out a celebrity narrator for its annual Super Bowl documentary. Pitt was chosen because of his humanitarian work in New Orleans in the five years since Hurricane Katrina, the NFL said.
The United States has added more star power to its bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, putting actor Brad Pitt on the committee trying to bring back soccer’s premier event.
Pitt accepted an invitation to join the USA Bid Committee, the group said Wednesday.
“Soccer is a truly global sport and the opportunity to join the effort to have the U.S. host the world’s greatest sporting event again is a great honor,” Pitt said in a statement.
A day after reuniting with her father, actor Jon Voight, for a family cruise along Venice’s canals, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and their children flew to Paris on Monday afternoon, where the actress will continue work on her upcoming film The Tourist.
Sources tell PEOPLE that Jolie will spend several days filming the movie’s initial scenes, including a location shoot at one of the city’s Belle Epoque landmarks.
The family is expected to return to Venice, where they spent last week enjoying the sights and some ice cream while Jolie prepared for filming.
