Walter Salles’ On the Road, Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy and Michael Haneke’s Amour will join Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis for a trip to the 65th annual Festival de Cannes.

Also screening in the competition are Holy Motors by Leos Carax and more U.S. titles such as Jeff Nichol’s Mud, The Angels’ Share by Ken Loach and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta. All in all, U.S. filmmakers will have a strong presence in Cannes this year.

Dominik’s mobster film Killing Them Softly will bring Pitt to the Croisette for the director’s follow-up to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And Nichols’ presents his anticipated follow-up title to Take Shelter, a coming-of-age drama set in Arkansas that stars McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.

“We were informed that they arrived at the airport in Baltra yesterday,” a source in the mayor’s office of Santa Cruz tells PEOPLE. “Then they made their way over to a villa in the Galápagos Islands.”

Their destination is reportedly the exclusive Royal Palm Hotel, and they arrived in style, first to Baltra, Ecuador, on a private jet – and then, according to Ecuador’s El Universo, on board the Reina Silvia, one of the area’s most luxurious yachts.

Jolie, who has long worked with the United Nations, recently received a promotion to the position of Special Envoy of High Commissioner António Guterres.

Family members are happy too, Brad’s brother, Doug Pitt, told the Springfield News-Leader.

“I would just say, Angie has been family from day one. This doesn’t change anything there. We are excited for them and the kids and the family. It’s a great step and one we are glad to see happen.”

Doug also said a date has not been set. When it is, he doubts his brother’s wedding will happen in Springfield.

“He loves Springfield,” Doug said, “but I don’t know that it will make it to the top of the list.”

Wherever it does occur, “I’m looking forward to it,” the Springfield businessman said.

“Yes, it’s confirmed,” Pitt’s manager Cynthia Pett-Dante tells PEOPLE. “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”

Jeweler Robert Procop designed Jolie’s engagement ring in collaboration with Pitt.

Jolie, 36, and Pitt, 48, have been together since 2005, and rumors that they planned to marry have circulated for years.

The Beverly Hills jeweler and former CEO of Asprey & Garrard, the British jewelry company to the English royal family, confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that he has designed an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie. A rep for the jeweler says, “I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt.”

Procop tells THR: “Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suite Angelina’s hand. Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution. The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.”

Back in February, Deadline revealed that Ridley Scott was aiming high for a nemesis to play alongside Michael Fassbender in The Counselor, with Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem on the wish list. I’m told now that Scott is on the verge of getting both actors into the movie. There are rumors swirling that Angelina Jolie is in discussions to play the female lead but that is less solidified. They’re all in talks for a film that starts production late June. Fox is negotiating to distribute, which was expected because of Scott Free’s first look deal that gave the studio first crack at the package. If all this works out, I can’t imagine Fox lets this one get away.

New Regency is in talks to co-finance and distribute (through its output deal with 20th Century Fox) the Steve McQueen-directed Twelve Years A Slave, an adaptation of the Solomon Northup memoir originally published in 1853. Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Northup, and Michael Fassbender will reunite with Shame director McQueen. Fassbender will play a plantation owner. Brad Pitt will play a Northern lawyer who helps free Northup and he and his Plan B banner will produce the film.

Cracked Brad: “Any moment sitting next to Jonah is Cloud 9, as you will quickly pick up on. No, it’s really nice, really nice for the film. This thing was an arduous undertaking. … I’m happy it’s paid off.”

Pitt admitted there was some pranking on the set. “They gave us golf carts” to travel from one set of the lot to the other, he explained, going past several other productions. “I had Jonah’s cart rigged. Whenever he turned it on it would blast Wake me up Before you Go-go. … It was pretty good, I gotta say.“
