The premium cable network has renewed the half-hour dramedy for a second season. The series, based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Danler, wrapped its run in June with an average of 164,000 live-same-day viewers and mixed reviews among critics. (The series has a 35 percent rating among critics and 88 percent score among viewers on RottenTomatoes.com.) Season two will consist of 10 episodes — up from six in its freshman run. A return date has not yet been determined.

“Season one gave audiences a taste of the characters and backstory of an upscale New York restaurant, leaving them wanting more — which we will deliver with a second helping of Sweetbitter,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said. “The immersion of the audience into the world in and around the restaurant will deepen as the series looks further into the complexities of Tess’ awakening and the lives of her new friends and colleagues in the second season.”
