Casting call out for Native actors for Lewis and Clark series

A casting call has been issued for Native American actors and language speakers for a dramatic miniseries about the Lewis and Clark expedition that will air on HBO.

Casting director Rene Haynes, who specializes in Native American and First Nations casting and who has casted the likes of “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” and “Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “Eclipse,” is leading the effort.

The casting calls are being held throughout the Northwest and Canada, with three stops in Montana, including in Missoula on Nov. 5, Polson on Nov. 8, and Browning on Nov. 10.

Roles sought include a young Native/First Nations woman, between the ages of 17 and early 20s but looking younger, to play Sacagawea. Native/First Nations men 18 and older who are lean, fit and skilled horseback riders are also sought. According to Haynes’ website, above-average horsemanship skills are sought, and long hair is not required but is a “plus.”
