Cannes Film Festival Unveils 2012 Competition Lineup With Strong U.S. Presence

Walter Salles’ On the Road, Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy and Michael Haneke’s Amour will join Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis for a trip to the 65th annual Festival de Cannes.

Also screening in the competition are Holy Motors by Leos Carax and more U.S. titles such as Jeff Nichol’s Mud, The Angels’ Share by Ken Loach and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta. All in all, U.S. filmmakers will have a strong presence in Cannes this year.

Dominik’s mobster film Killing Them Softly will bring Pitt to the Croisette for the director’s follow-up to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And Nichols’ presents his anticipated follow-up title to Take Shelter, a coming-of-age drama set in Arkansas that stars McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.

  1. I hope this film blows them away at Cannes. It looks like another great performance to add to Brad’s growing list of great performances. I too loved Jesse James and it got cheated except for Casey and the beautiful cinematography..

He has been robbed so many times, I think for something he has no control over–his face and his lack of overblown acting–he rarely shouts or chews scenery like so many actors who get awards. Maybe he will have to go the “ugly” route.

Men as beautiful and talented as he is (like Newman), never get respect for talent until much later in life. One day he will be in a not so great film like Newman and probably get an award for his body of work.

Loed Brad in Kalifornia. Love him in dark roles too.
I just saw CCOBB again on TV..it was so much better ten when I 1st saw it. I cried like a baby.Brad was cheated out of the Oscar. He was excellent as the old Ben. The whole preformance was so elegant and quiet genius.I believe he is our finest actors in the US. He will go so far. He is like that bottle of Bordeaux that is almost ready to decanter.
