On Wednesday, we found out how the duo met and how “Basterds” came to be. In part two of the conversation, they talk about the battle between today and 10 years ago, the Nazi rewrite that made Brad scratch his head and how Quentin himself nearly played Brad’s character. Stay tuned Friday for part three.
On coming around to Tarantino’s historical rewrite:
Quentin Tarantino: I loved it when you were on the “Charlie Rose” show talking about “Benjamin Button” and Charlie Rose goes: “So, I hear you’re doing a movie about World War II.” Well, it takes place during World War II, but I don’t know if this is really about World War II.
Brad Pitt: To me, this is the cap on the Nazi-focused films. It’s just like [the Nazi film] to end all films. Where else are you gonna go after this?
Tarantino: That’s one of the things ["Basterds" star] Christoph [Waltz] said. He goes: “I think Quentin has killed the German Nazi film for all time.”
Pitt: Seal it. It’s done.
Tarantino: [Pitt] was very sweet when we had our big discussion about the movie, because he didn’t quite know about the ending. He had questions.
Pitt: Yeah, absolutely I did. [Laughs.] Are you kidding me?

‘A Tarantino character — we all want to get one of those,’ Pitt says as he and Quentin Tarantino sit down with MTV News for a chat.
If you want a big movie star, you can’t get much more A-list than Brad Pitt. If you want a great director, good luck finding a living one with more passion, creativity and talent than Quentin Tarantino. And if you want an instant classic of a film, look no further than this weekend’s “Inglourious Basterds.”
Recently, the two men who’ve separately blessed us with everything from “Pulp Fiction” to “Fight Club,” “Kill Bill” to “Se7en,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” to “Reservoir Dogs” sat down together for a truly unique conversation. MTV News is proud to be the exclusive home for this chat, which explores everything from the juiciness of landing a Tarantino character to why Brad’s agent kept Quentin away, to why Pitt is Hollywood’s first choice when it comes to playing a hillbilly.
On how “Basterds” came to be:
Brad Pitt: This thing was a gift. It landed in my lap and six weeks later we were shooting; you don’t want to change a thing. I compare it to working with a Coen brothers script, because the dialogue is so spot on. And there’s a music to it — if you take one step off the trail, you just muck up the whole thing. And so you stay on course. It was really so defined and laid-out — I’m gonna get a lot more credit for this one than I should.

Contrary to the circulating rumor, the ‘Inglourious Basterds’ leading man won’t be seen portraying Sherlock Holmes’ archfoe, Moriarty, in the Guy Ritchie-directed action drama.
There will be no Brad Pitt in “Sherlock Holmes”. Warner Bros. Pictures has squashed the recent flying rumor suggesting that the star of “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” has been recruited to play Holmes’ arch nemesis, Moriarty, in Guy Ritchie’s new take on the legendary detective and his crime-solving story.
“The report in today’s London Mirror is completely inaccurate. Brad Pitt is not joining the cast of Sherlock Holmes and we’re extremely pleased with the production of the film,” a studio-sanctioned statement, released Monday, August 17, read. “As planned, it will be released on Christmas Day, 2009.”

In his current movie opening Friday, Quentin Tarantino’s R-rated WWII movie Inglourious Basterds, Brad Pitt plays a southern lieutenant whose squadron, among other bloody deeds, scalps Nazis.
“Yeah,” Pitt, 45, confirmed to interviewer Ann Curry on Tuesday’s Today show, “people lose some hair.”
When Curry counters that Pitt – the father of six – ought to make a kids movie, the leading man steps forward with the announcement that he is doing just that, by providing the voice for an animated feature in which he’ll play a “superhero who wants out.”
Pitt says that movie will costar the voices of Tina Fey and Robert Downey Jr., and trade reports identify the project as Oobermind, from DreamWorks Animation and Madagascar co-director Tim McGrath. An update since the Pitt-Curry sit-down also indicates that Will Ferrell has replaced Robert Downey Jr.
The movie, now in post-production for a November 2010 release, reportedly opens with Pitt, as the super heroic Metro Man, being accidentally killed by the super villain Oobermind (Ferrell), who has a change of heart about being bad and so creates a new hero, Titan (Jonah Hill) – much to the confusion of a local newscaster (Fey).

LIONSGATE, the leading next generation studio, announced today that it has acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to KICK-ASS, the hotly anticipated action-comedy from writer/director Matthew Vaughn. Based on the groundbreaking, best-selling comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., KICK-ASS stars Nicolas Cage, rising star Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz. The screenplay is written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman. The producers are Matthew Vaughn, Brad Pitt, Tarquin Pack and Kris Thykier; Millar and Romita Jr. are co-producers. The announcement was made today by Joe Drake, Lionsgate President, Motion Picture Group, and Co-Chief Operating Officer, and Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions.
KICK-ASS was the buzz sensation of the July Comic-Con in San Diego, where early footage was shown to wildly appreciative fans. The film is a privately financed independent production from Vaughn’s Marv Films and Plan B Entertainment, and is currently in post-production. Lionsgate anticipates a wide release in 2010.

DreamWorks Animation’s “Oobermind” has enlisted three new superheroes, with Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill set to lend their voices to the comedy set for release in fall 2010.
Ferrell replaces Robert Downey Jr. in the title role of a supervillain who imagines all his dastardly dreams coming true after defeating good-guy rival Metro Man (Pitt), only to find life quite boring without an adversary. To fill the void, Oobermind creates a new superhero, Titan (Hill), who also wants to be bad, forcing Oobermind to switch sides.
The three actors join Tina Fey, already onboard to play the reporter tasked with keeping track of the city’s confusing superhero situation.
“Oobermind,” produced by Lara Breay and Denise Nolan Cascino, is being directed by Tom McGrath, co-helmer of the “Madagascar” pics. The project would have marked the first major animation role for Downey, who exited due to scheduling conflicts.

If all goes according to plan and if all goes well in the notoriously finicky editing room, Terrence Malick’s long-awaited, “The Tree Of Life,” (dubbed a “mystical epic”)will hit U.S. theaters on December 25 via the newly-named Apparition distributors according to Entertainment Weekly’s Fall Preview edition .
Makes complete sense since trade reports already said the film would hit sometime in December (or the “late holiday season,” but what else is that but December?).
Could Sony Pictures be somehow involved? Last week on a Johnny Depp message board, an observant reader noted that imaginariummovie.com, redirected to the Sony movies website and then a day later, Sony Pictures Classics announced they would distribute “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” (a film that Depp co-stars in).
